Objectives

At the conclusion of this seminar, the participant should:

Understand the common thrombophilias and how they are diagnosed

Understand the incidence of DVT and PE and what modalities are available to diagnose them.

Understand the use of heparin and low molecular weight heparin in the prophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolic disease.

Have a better understanding of less common conditions such as septic pelvic thrombophlebitis, ovarian vein thrombosis, and cerebral vein thrombosis.
