Melissa Fries, M.D.

Coordinator, Florida Review

Dr. Fries is a Director for Genetics and fetal Medicine at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

Dr. Fries has been a trustee for Perinatal Resources, Inc. since 2001 and is one of the coordinators for the Annual Review of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Fries received her M.D. in 1984 from Uniformed Services, at the University of Health Sciences. Her postgraduate education includes her internship and residency in obstetrics & gynecology from Wilford Hall, United States Air Force in 1984-88. From 1989-1992, she did a fellowship in medical genetics and reproductive ultrasound at the University of California in San Francisco. From 1998-99, she received the APGO/Solvay Education Fellowship.

Her major interests are sonographic assessment of chromosomal anomalies, inherited breast/ovarian cancer, and curriculum modifications in ob/gyn residencies. She has published 20 articles and 4 book chapters.

Elizabeth Kennard

Elizabeth Kennard, M.D

Associate Continuing Medical Education Director Coordinator, Columbus Review

Dr. Kennard is an associate professor and Director for the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the department of ob/gyn at The Ohio State University.

She received her M.D. in 1986 at Case Western Reserve University.

Her postgraduate education includes a residency at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital (1986-90) and a fellowship at The Ohio State University (1990-92).

Her major interests include reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

She has published 9 articles, 10 book chapters and authored/edited 1 book.

Moon Kim

Moon Kim, M.D.

 

Dr. Moon H. Kim received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Yonsei University, Korea and residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. He then completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility REI at the University of Washington Hospital and the University of Toronto at St. Michael’s Hospital.

He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor and Director of REI Division at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. During his 24-year distinguished career at the Ohio State University he directed REI program, served as Vice Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and held the Richard L. Meiling Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1998 he moved to the University of California Irvine assuming the position of professor of Obstetrics and gynecology and Director of REI Division. Currently he is a Professor Emeritus at UC Irvine directing REI program and Editor-in-Chief of American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Kim has published 86 articles, 19 book chapters and 1 book.

Edgar Makowski

Edgar Makowski, M.D.

Founding Trustee and Continuing Medical Education Director

Dr. Edgar Makowski graduated from Marquette Medical School in 1954. He started his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Minnesota, and served as a fellow in 1956 at the Vincent Memorial Research Laboratory at Harvard University. He completed the residency in 1959 at the University of Minnesota. Following his residency training, Dr. Makowski was appointed an instructor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Minnesota. In 1963, he was awarded a special fellowship from the National Institutes of Health to study perinatal physiology in the Department of Physiology at Yale University.

The University of Colorado recruited him in 1966 as an Associate Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. From 1973 –1980, Dr. Makowski served as Secretary of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine for The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Makowski was elected President of the Perinatal Research Society in 1975, and in 1976, the University of Colorado appointed him Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. From 1976 – 1980, he served as a member of the National Institutes of Health Study Section of Human Embryology and Development, and became Chairman of the Study Section from 1981-1983. In 1982 he was elected President of the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society.

Dr. Makowski has authored over 100 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, wrote 13 book chapters and authored/edited 4 books. Dr. Makowski became Professor & Chairman Emeritus in 1993 at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Today, Dr. Makowski is a Perinatal Resources Trustee. He has served in this position since the organization’s inception in 1977.

John T. Queenan

John T. Queenan, M.D.

Founding Trustee, Coordinator Florida Review

Dr. Queenan is a founder and original trustee Perinatal Resources, Inc. He has served in this position since 1977, and is the current senior coordinator for the Annual Review of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Queenan is the Professor and Chairman, Emeritus of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Georgetown University Medical Center. He is also a Deputy Editor for Obstetrics & Gynecology. He received his M.D. in 1958 from Cornell University Medical Center. His postgraduate education includes and internship at Bellevue Hospital, Straight medicine, Memorial hospital for Cancer and Allied disease in 1958-59. 1959-1962 he did his residency for the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the New York Hospital, Cornell University Medical Center.

His major interests include maternal fetal medicine, blood group incompatibilities, ultrasound and abnormal fetal growth. He has published 145 articles, 43 book chapters, and 17 books.

John T. Queenan Jr.

John T. Queenan Jr., M.D.

Vice President and Coordinator

Dr. Queenan is an associate professor for the department of ob/gyn, division of reproductive endocrinology at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York. He received his M.D. in 1988 at the University of Pennsylvania. His postgraduate education includes a residency at John Hopkins (1992) and a fellowship at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Endocrinology in 1994.

His major interests include IVF, uterine fibroids, recurrent pregnancy loss, and endometriosis.

He has published 26 articles and 6 book chapters.

E. J. Quilligan

E.J. Quilligan, M.D.

Founding Trustee, President and Coordinator

Dr. Quilligan is a founder and President of Perinatal Resources, Inc. He has served in this position since 1977 and is a current coordinator for the Columbus Comprehensive Review.

Dr. Quilligan is the Professor Emeritus of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, Irvine. He is also an executive director for medical education at the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. He received his M.D. in 1951 from The Ohio State University. His postgraduate education was at The Ohio State University in 1951-1954, and Case Western Reserve from 1954-1956. Dr. Quilligan is Editor Emeritus for the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

His major interests include high risk pregnancy and fetal neuro damage. He has published 100 articles, 39 book chapters, and 17 books.

William Spellacy

William Spellacy, M.D.

Founding Trustee and Coordinator

Dr. Spellacy is a founder and original trustee Perinatal Resources, Inc. He has served in this position since 1977.

He is the Professor Emeritus of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Dr. Spellacy received his M.D. in 1959 from the University of Minnesota.

He did his residency in 1959-1963 at the University of Minnesota. His major interests include high risk pregnancy and reproductive endocrinology. He has published 525 articles, 82 book chapters, and 10 books.

His major interests include high risk pregnancy and fetal neuro damage. He has published 100 articles, 39 book chapters, and 17 books.

Kathryn Zuspan

Kathryn Zuspan, M.D.

Associate Continuing Medical Education Director & Coordinator

Dr. Kathryn Zuspan is an Obstetric Anesthesiologist who has worked in both private practice and teaching institutions. She currently is a Consultant for Valley Anesthesiology Consultants in Stillwater, Minnesota. Dr. Zuspan received her M.D. degree in 1979 from The Ohio State University. She did a partial OB/GYN residency at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before returning to Ohio State University to complete an Anesthesia residency in 1983 followed by an Obstetric Anesthesia fellowship at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. Her major interest is Obstetrical Anesthesiology. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Society of Obstetric Anesthesiologists and Perinatologists and is active in the American Society of Anesthesiology. She was a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Task Force that developed the national practice parameters for Obstetric Anesthesia published in 1999. She was a member of the second Task Force that created the updated version of the document in 2007. She has published 14 articles and 18 book chapters.
