Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

• Discuss the pathophysiology of perinatal complications seen in pregnancy complicated by diabetes mellitus, especially as they relate to maternal glycemic regulation.

• Explain the need for preconception counseling and the role of maternal hyperglycemia in the etiology of malformations

• Describe the techniques available for control of maternal diabetes during the antepartum period and the current techniques used for the assessment of fetal well being.
