 Accreditation:  Perinatal Resources, Inc. is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 

All of Perinatal Resources, Inc.'s activities are planned and implemented in accordance with the essential areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) by Perinatal Resources, Inc.

Mission Statement:

CME Purpose

Perinatal Resources, Inc., a not-for-profit medical educational corporation established over 30 years ago, provides continuing medical education to practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and its territories. The CME program ensures that obstetricians and gynecologists are knowledgeable in the latest nationally accepted clinical guidelines in its multiple subspecialty areas in order to effectively treat, manage and promote women’s health.  The goal of Perinatal Resources, Inc. is to improve the ob/gyn physician’s competency and outcomes of patient care as well as enhance performance-in-practice. Educational outcome measurement is completed on a continuous basis that facilitates clinical improvement and quality assurance.

Content Areas

The content of Perinatal Resources’ CME program encompasses general obstetrics and gynecology, urogynecology, oncology, maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, primary care, infectious diseases, genetics and ultrasound.    The broad range of topics are determined through a comprehensive needs assessment process including requirements of learners, experts, national guidelines, and observed quality indicators within the health system, all of which are indicative of the professional gaps in the specialty as well as the subspecialties.

Practicing obstetrician and gynecologist and related subspecialty physicians

Type of Activities

Live activities including large group lectures and small group study sessions, question/answer panels and case-based self-study all of which immerse the participant in an unbiased and commercial-support free environment

Expected Results

As a result of their involvement in the CME program, learners should be able to demonstrate changes in competence, improvement in clinical performance, and/or improved patient outcomes. Metrics for determination of success include the following:

s   For changes in competence, case-based vignettes in the form of pre/post tests, determines knowledge which was gained.

s   Receiving specialty board certification and/or continued maintenance of certification indicate a professionally accepted ability to practice safe and effective medicine

s   There will be a 6-month post-course evaluation questionnaire regarding changes in practice performance specifically related to course material and requests for practice gaps which will allow us to focus on content of future activities.

s   Utilizing educational outcome measurements and improvement in patient outcomes will determine the closure of identified gaps

 

Disclosure:

In accordance with the ACCME (Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education) Standards for Commercial Support, it is the policy of Perinatal Resources, Inc. to insure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in all of its CME activities.  All faculty and staff participating in PRI-sponsored CME activities are required to disclose to the program audience any significant financial interests or other relationships they, or their spouse/partner have with the manufacturer of any commercial product discussed in their educational presentations that they have, or have had, in the past 12 months.  This pertains to relationships with pharmaceutical companies, biomedical device manufacturers, or other corporations whose products or services are related to the subject matter of the presentation.  The intent of this policy is to make the audience aware of the faculty’s interest prior to the presentation(s).  All conflicts of interest must be resolved before the beginning of the activity.  Faculty disclosure is available online prior to the start of the conference and mailed in the pre-conference packet.

 

Coordinator's Disclosure:  All coordinator's and planners, faculty and staff involved with the planning of the activities disclose any relevant financial relationships at the beginning of the first planning meeting.

Resolving Conflicts of Interest:

All materials submitted for presentation are reviewed for validation of clinical content for accuracy, clarity, objectivity (no commercial bias), fair balance & evidence-based recommendations , completeness & relevancy of cited references and copyright infringements.  Those speakers who have disclosed a potential conflict of interest are required to sign an attestation form stating that their lectures are evidence-based and not biased.  After review of the material, if a conflict is found, the speaker either edits the material or is asked to withdraw from participation.  Furthermore, the moderator and a coordinator are in the audience to evaluate the live presentations to ensure that the lectures are bias free.  The attendees are also asked to review for any commercial bias during the activities.

 

 

CME Credit:

Certificates will be issued after the course.  Credits will be adjusted accordingly for participants not attending the full course or evening sessions.  For the participants who are not physicians, a certificate of attendance will be issued.  Perinatal Resources, Inc. maintains credit records for a minimum of 6 years.  PRI strictly adheres to all guidelines set by the AMA when awarding continuing medical education credit.
